Under WHS/OHS laws, the Person Conducting the Business or Undertaking (PCBU), usually the employer, must ensure anyone operating earthmoving equipment, and similar mobile plant, is competent to operate the equipment, has been trained in the operation of the specific machine, is provided with instructions, operator’s manual, safe work method statement and a hazard identification and risk assessment report.

Under the National Training Packages, there are Units of Competency for the operation of rollers and excavators and other earthmoving equipment:

Completion of training in a unit of competency is one way of demonstrating to an employer a worker is competent to operate the equipment.

If the worker has not been regularly operating the earthmoving equipment – rollers, excavators etc – and training was undertaken more than two years before, an employer should also consider requiring the worker to demonstrate they are currently competent to operate the equipment.

If a worker has experience operating earthmoving equipment, but has not done the relevant Unit of Competency, the employer should also consider assessing the competency of the worker before they start. This can be done through a Verification of Competency, which may be done by the employer or by a training provider.

The employer is then responsible for ensuring the worker is made familiar with the specific details of the make and model they are using, and trained in the SWMS, HIRAC and the Operator’s Manual.
All this information must be documented and records maintained showing the worker is competent to operate the specific machine.

The same WHS/OHS laws apply to owner-operators and self-employed contractors. You will need to be able to demonstrate you are competent to operate the earthmoving equipment.

If you are new to Conplant, and have not set up commercial trading terms, you will need to pay a deposit when you book your equipment. The deposit is equivalent to 1 day hire. In addition to the deposit, the full hire rate, all transport costs, and insurance must be paid prior to the equipment leaving our yard.

The daily hire rate is all inclusive for the piece(s) of equipment on hire. The daily rate allows for 8 hours of use within a 24-hour period. Please note: The day rate excludes GST, damage waiver and transportation costs.

As part of our policy, we believe you should only pay for equipment on a public holiday if you use it.

As soon as you’re finished with the equipment, or know that you’ll be finished, give us a call on 1300 166 166 and off hire your equipment to avoid any additional charges.

Yes, we have a number of transport options including large floats or smaller tilt trays for those harder to get to locations.

Yes, for your protection we ask that your transport provider complies with the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations and NHVR laws and policies relevant to each state. We will provide a transport engagement order at the time of collection providing all weights and dimensions of the equipment has been collected. Click here for more information on CoR.

Yes, we encourage you to play your role in ensuring the risk of soil contamination remains low, in addition to eliminating the risks of debris falling off the roller during transport. If there is an excessive amount of dirt build up on your equipment we will charge a one off cleaning fee based on the amount of time taken to clean the equipment. If in doubt, simply send an image of your equipment to your local depot prior to collection.

You are not required to top your fuel up prior to the equipment being collected or returned if you do not have access to a refilling station. However, be mindful that, like all hire related industries, a top up fee will be incurred. Our current rate is $3.50/ L + GST (subject to change). This covers the cost of fuel, safe storage and the labour required to refuel the equipment.

We know that sometimes things don’t go as planned. If you notice your equipment starts to make strange sounds, shut it down and report it. If it suddenly stops operating, give us a call on 1300 166 166 and one of our experts will help get you going again.

Punctures are the hirees responsibility. If you don’t know a local puncture repair company, give us a call on 1300 166 166 and we’ll organise to have your puncture repaired at your cost.

As part of our 75-point pre-hire inspection check, we ensure each piece of equipment is fully fueled before it goes back out to work.

All of our tandem rollers are set up to ensure maximum efficiency and will be delivered with a working sprinkler system.

All water tanks will be filled as part of our 75-point pre-hire inspection prior to hire.

Most of our compaction rollers do have a vibration setting. There are, however, a couple of different types of rollers that do not vibrate. If you are worried about your surroundings, read about the functions of our multi tyre roller and static rollers.

As there are often controls and switches that need to be set correctly, it is always best to read the operation manual prior to use. Our trained delivery staff will give you pointers when the equipment is delivered, however, for your safety, and to get the best out of your compaction roller, if you are having any difficulties give our experts a call on 1300 166 166.
