Janet O’Brien

National manager – People and Performance

As a CIPD qualified HR practitioner, and a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI), Janet O’Brien has been assisting Conplant’s HR department for more than 13 years. Aside from managing HR activities, Janet also works on a range of wider compliance and risk management activities associated with the industry.

Janet loves helping people solve practical problems by finding square pegs for square holes – and that’s the philosophy she brings to Conplant when it comes to recruitment.

Finding great people that can do the job, and also fit in and contribute to the Conplant culture, is no easy task, but Janet makes it seem like a piece of cake! Janet’s goal is to make sure we hire the right people, who are passionate about our business, and strive to continue to develop their skills and grow as new opportunities arise.

During her time at Conplant, one of the great things Janet has noticed is that Conplant doesn’t have a great deal of turnover. This is thanks largely to the company culture and transparency Janet has helped integrate into everything we do, and means the expertise and knowledge that our team brings to the business continues to benefit our customers each and every day.

And the company culture that Janet helps to foster?

“Personally, I think the key is treating people as individuals and understanding their needs. That means different things to different people depending on their circumstances “.

“We all work as a team, and we all cooperate. People can collaborate, innovate and just get on with stuff without being bogged down by things that can take up lots of time – especially when there’s not a good culture in place”.

“I think that’s one of the reasons the culture is so stable and so positive. It’s cooperative, friendly and supportive. We’re a very ‘face-to-face’ company. I can’t fix a roller like Dary – but I can help fix problems so that our people can stay focused on our customers”.
